In the 1800s, the ambitious horticultural enterprises of George Ellwanger and PatrickBarry were what made Rochester "The Flower City." Today, the land on whichtheir seed and plant empire was built is wondrous Highland Park, and also close-knit neighborhood. The playground at the corner of Linden and Meigs Streets would be the place to soak in the Ellwanger Barry Neighborhood. A favorite among children and their parents (and others from around the city),the park affords a view of many of the handsome single-family homes of theneighborhood, and the Ellwanger Barry Condominiums across the street, creatively carved from a closed school building. A short walk away is wondrous Highland Park and the choices of the commercial districts in the South Wedge and Swillburg.
