The results of this 2003 survey done by Britain's Huggins Associates concluded that Rochester was fourth best in the world in a community's ability to transform innovative ideas and products into real economic value. Rochester just missed the bronze in this competition, finishing fourth behind San Francisco, Austin, and Boston. Not bad!

SKYWAYS...AND SUBWAYS! You've probably seen the downtown "skyways," designed to help you get around downtown in winter without setting foot outside. But did you know that Rochester is the smallest American city to ever have a subway system? Sadly, the Rochester subway has been gone for fifty years, but in the day it sure was great. Check out the fabulous RochesterSubway.com site, which includes a Rochester Subway map a la New York City and London, and a documentary about the rise and fall of the system. And know that your friends at the Rochester Rail Transit Committee and the Rochester Trolley and Rail Corporation, among others, are working tirelessly to get regional rail back on track.
ROCHESTER TWICE VOTED "MOST HELPFUL CITY." In 1990 and also fifty years prior, researchers set out to learn what city's citizens would most readily help strangers in need of assistance.
